You Well, good afternoon, Columbus. We are back. We have home football back for the first time in like 18 months. So those of us who have missed the Buckeyes playing at home, this is an exciting day. and we are here once again to proclaim to you the great mystery of the gospel that Jesus Christ came and died for sinners. I think we would have won. Thanks, man.
That Jesus Christ came and he died for sinners and then he resurrected from the dead and that all those who believe in him may have eternal life. So I'm going to read to you from the Old Testament. This is the part of the Bible that was already written by the time Jesus came. This is Isaiah chapter 12. It's a prophetic book of the Old Testament that teaches us about the coming Messiah.
Isaiah writes, You will say in that day, I will give thanks to you, O Yahweh, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me. Behold, God is my salvation, Isaiah writes. I will trust and I will not be afraid. For Yahweh, the Lord Yahweh is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation. with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation and you will say in that day give thanks to Yahweh call upon his name make known his deeds among the peoples proclaim that his name is exalted sing praises to Yahweh for he has done gloriously let this be made known in all the earth shout and sing for joy oh inhabitant of Zion for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel the book of Isaiah prophesies about a coming Messiah a great king who would come from on high in order to save his people from their sins and this great king's name is Jesus.
He is God in heaven, the second person of the Trinity, the only begotten Son of the Father. And what we read about in the Bible is that His name is exalted. But before His name would be exalted, He endured a suffering. The book of Philippians tells us that although he was God, and he had a claim to be God, he did not count that as something to be grasped, but he emptied himself by being born in the likeness of men.
And then Jesus Christ, being found in human form, humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross, so that God would highly exalt him and give him a name that is above every name. So that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. What we see is this was predicted by the prophet Isaiah.
Isaiah tells us, make known his deeds among the peoples and proclaim that his name is exalted. So this name that we lift up, that's what it means to exalt something. This name we lift up for you is the name of Jesus Christ. He is the only son of God, the begotten of the Father, eternally co-existent as God, but co-equal in majesty and glory with the Father and the Spirit.
And yet, Jesus Christ became a man. He came to dwell among men in order to fulfill God's eternal plan to save a people for himself. Now what does it mean for Jesus to fulfill the plan to save a people for himself? Why did Jesus have to come into the world as a man and why did he have to die? The reason why Jesus had to come into the world and die is because of our sin.
You see, a long time ago, God put two people in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve. And Adam and Eve were told that they could eat of any tree of the garden except for one tree. And God called it the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. And the tempter Satan came as a serpent to Eve And he asked her if God said they could not eat of that tree or of any tree and she said well we can even touch this one tree And the tempter caused Eve to question whether God's command was good.
And Eve looked at the tree, and instead of believing God that this was a tree she should avoid, Eve instead believed Satan that this was a tree that was good for food and good to make her wise and would be pleasing to her flesh. And then she ate of that tree and she gave the fruit also to her husband Adam who was with her and he ate. And when Adam disobeyed God in that Garden of Eden, Adam brought a curse upon all of this world and upon all of his posterity.
That's you and me. So thus, we are all born as sons of Adam. We have all been conceived as a child of Adam. And Adam brought a curse upon this whole world. and God in his infinite goodness and love towards people would not allow people to continue to live only in their sin, which would separate them from him eternally. God instead implemented a plan to immediately, through Adam and Eve and one of their sons, to begin a line of people, God bless you man, to begin a line of people, thank you, who would one day usher in a Messiah, Jesus Christ our Lord.
And God preserved people. And He finally at one point called out Abraham. And then Abraham had a son named Isaac. And Isaac had a son named Jacob, whose name was changed to Israel. and then God promised through Abraham's son Isaac that he would one day bring a Messiah and while the Jewish people were waiting for the Messiah to come God gave them laws to follow ceremonial laws that signified the washing away of sin by the blood of a substitute And so people who had sinned against God and understood their sin would come to the Jewish temple.
And they would bring a little lamb or a little goat. And they would sacrifice this animal according to God's law. You look like a goddamn animal. And when they brought that animal to be sacrificed according to God's law on their behalf, they were showing a picture of what God would one day do in Jesus Christ. They were showing a picture of this salvation that would come through Jesus Christ to his people.
Because one day... No, because you're worth it. your soul is worth it for me to stand here and preach the truth to you it's not a waste of time you have an eternal soul and it's valuable to me so we are here to proclaim to you this salvation that was promised in the Old Testament and the prophet Isaiah is the one who came and said that God is his salvation he says in the first verse of chapter 12 that we read earlier i will give thanks to you oh yahweh for though you were angry with me your anger turned away that you might comfort me and what we see here is we see a picture of god's love for his people in that while he is angry with them for their sin, his anger can be turned away for all those who will trust in Jesus Christ as Savior. But even more so, in this first verse of Isaiah, what we see is the cry of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Lord Jesus Christ is the one who says, I will give thanks to you, O God, O Yahweh, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away. that you might comfort me. The reason why I can tell you that Jesus Christ spoke these words and that these are his thoughts is that Jesus Christ, when he was on that cross, was actually under the righteous wrath of God. The justice of God was being poured out on Jesus, and God was righteously angry with his only son, whom he called his beloved son and whom he is well pleased.
Because for those moments, Jesus Christ became sin in the place of his people. He was the ultimate substitute who would come to suffer the penalty that sinners deserve. So the offer of the gospel, thank you, The offer of the gospel is that sinners like you and I are can be forgiven of all of the things that we have done wrong, all of the things that righteously would bring God to anger, because Jesus Christ actually suffered the anger of God the justice of God on behalf of his people And then when he was raised again that was the proclamation that God anger was turned away from him so that he might be comforted.
So because Jesus suffered in the place of sinners and God accepted his sacrifice as perfect, sinners can be forgiven. So the command to you today is to repent and believe the gospel. to turn from your sin, to stop looking in the direction of your sin, and to turn to Jesus Christ and trust in Him for your eternal salvation. You have no other hope. Many of you are clinging to some form of false religion.
You're clinging to some form of salvation whereby you either don't need salvation because you're already good enough, or you go to some kind of religious experience where you try to atone for yourself or justify yourself. But in God's eyes, every one of us is so unrighteous that there is nothing you can do to actually be pleasing to Him now that you have fallen from Him. But Jesus Christ did everything that was necessary so that sinners could be brought into a right relationship with God.
Jesus Christ is the one who says behold God is my salvation he says I will trust and will not be afraid there's no fear for those who are in Christ Jesus because Christ Jesus feared nothing but God himself Jesus Christ the perfect man Jesus Christ a real human being who suffered the temptations that we suffer, who suffered worse afflictions than we've experienced. Never once sinned, that means he never violated his father's will. He never went against God's perfect law.
So if you want to understand what God's perfect law is, you review the Ten Commandments. Most of you could name a lot of the commandments. the first one is you shall have no other gods before God Jesus Christ never violated this and we violate it regularly for some of you you're actually walking out of your temple where you worshipped your God and for some of you your God just failed you which is sad because a real God can't fail but false gods can but you shall have no other gods before me is what Yahweh God in the Old Testament said and that means that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life He is the Alpha and the Omega He is the beginning and the end He is the bright and morning star and there is no other Savior beside Him there is salvation in no other name but in the name of Jesus Christ the second commandment that we violate is that we are told that we are not to make any carved image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or in the earth beneath or that is in the water under the earth, that we shall not bow down to them to serve them. So some of you here probably would laugh at some of these tribal cultures that create their little carved images and they worship them and they think that these are their gods. but if you read carefully what you'll notice is the important aspect of the second commandment is that you are not to worship these man-made gods you shouldn't make them but you certainly don't worship them and some of us here today we are not guilty of forming a statue where we give it a face and eyes and things like that and then we worship it and give it a name but we worship other things.
We have found other things to substitute for God in our life, like money, sex, greed, even our own children, the Buckeyes. We have all sorts of gods that we make with our mind, that we worship and serve. We serve our God with our money, with our time, with our thoughts and ultimately your God will demand your life. What you worship will demand that you sacrifice.
And there is only one God who is worth sacrificing for, the one true God who revealed himself in the person of Jesus Christ. He's the only God that actually exists and therefore by very simple reasoning the only God worthy of your worship. Everything else you worship is some lesser God. Those of you that sacrifice your time and effort to make lots of money or those of you that sacrifice your time and your effort and even your money so that you can get you can get sex so you can maybe try to be pleasing to your spouse even those of you who bow down to the God of alcohol and inebriation and debauchery some of you are just thrill seekers and we're here to announce to you that there is a God who is above all those things and he sees all those things all your ways are before him and all false gods are before him and one day he will crush every one of them.
And you'll be crushed along with your false God if you don't repent and believe in the one true God, Jesus Christ. And so we're here to tell you about him because the only way to know Jesus Christ is to believe in him The only way you can believe in him is if you heard of him and the only way you going to hear of Him is if somebody comes and preaches His name to you But faith in Christ comes by your hearing and hearing by the Word of Christ. And so we announce to you who Jesus Christ is.
We're not ashamed of Jesus Christ. But we certainly would rather you shut your mouth now and worship Him, rather than God shut your mouth on Judgment Day. And that's why we're here. We desire to put the fear of God in you that you might repent. That you might see the sweetness of Jesus Christ who paid the penalty that sinners deserve. You might turn to Him and believe in Him for salvation.
There is no hope in any other. There is no hope in any other but Jesus Christ. He is the one true God. the only name under heaven whereby we must be saved is Jesus. Which brings us to the third commandment. You should not blaspheme the name of God. There's a promise attached to this one.
It's not a good promise. But it says, Yahweh, God, will not hold him guiltless who blasphemes his name. You can blaspheme his name in many ways. Most of you do it when you stub your toe or something goes wrong at work. But God's name, the name of God, the name of Jesus Christ is a holy name. And there is no other name that is above that name.
And God has exalted his name and his word above all things. And so if you have violated God by blaspheming his name, by using his name in an unholy manner, by using his name in a useless way, maybe you go to church. Maybe you shout the name of Jesus at church. If it doesn't come from a repentant heart that is trusted in Jesus for salvation, it's useless and it's blasphemy and God hates it.
Just like if people were plastering your name all over the place and you'd be angry and you try to stop it if they were maligning you and assassinating your character, God is similarly ready to punish those who malign His character and His name. His name is more than just the words. His name represents who He is essentially. He is abundant in steadfast love.
He's merciful. He's gracious. He's faithful. he's just he's omnipotent he's omniscient and when you abuse the name of God you show yourself to be a God-hater deserving of his punishment so our hope is that we will flee flee idolatry flee blasphemy and run to Jesus Christ who never committed any sin. Run to Jesus Christ, who is the only one who can save your soul.
Run to Jesus Christ, who already did everything that was necessary for sinners to come to him. So when we announce to you the good news that Jesus Christ suffered and died for sinners, that is only good news if you can acknowledge yourself as a sinner if you deny the fact that you're a sinner in need of a savior jesus christ will deny you on the day of judgment but if you will acknowledge today that jesus christ is lord if you will believe that god raised him from the dead in fulfillment of the scriptures and brought him to new life that you can have that new life with them, you will be saved. The Bible says, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.
The Bible says, All those who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved. This is not a message that is only for the Jews. Isaiah wrote it to Jews at the time. This is a message for all of us. Isaiah writes, with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. That there's a well, a metaphorical well with salvation, and those who are permitted to drink from it, it will never run dry.
There is more grace in God than there is sin in you. And if you will come to Him today, He can forgive you, and He can forgive all your sins. Some of you have heard the false gospel of the Roman Catholic Church. The false teaching that you can believe in Jesus, but that Jesus isn't strong enough to save you. You have to do something yourself to be saved.
You have to do something yourself to earn the favor of God. By definition, the grace or the favor of God cannot be earned. The very definition of grace is that it is a gift. And the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. But the wages of sin is death. And so we announce to you today about the gospel, the truth that Jesus is a Savior, we announce about the gift of God through Jesus and we also tell you about sin that you may recoil from sin.
You may realize your sinfulness in the eyes of a holy God and thus cling harder to His provision for the forgiveness of sins, Jesus Christ. There is no hope for the forgiveness of sins outside of Jesus Christ alone. But inside Jesus Christ, if you are found to be one of His on that day, there is complete certainty that you will spend eternity with Him in His glory.
There is absolute hope for those who come to the certain God, Jesus Christ, the God that you know exists. There's a reason why you just said, Oh Lord, because you only blaspheme the real God. You wouldn't say, Oh Allah or Oh Buddha, because you know that's meaningless. But we blaspheme the real God's name because we know in our hearts that He's the real God.
Your problem is not that you don't believe in God. Your problem is that you hate Him. And because you hate Him, because you hate His righteous wrath and judgment that's been revealed from the skies above, you suppress the truth that you know about God in order to satisfy your unrighteousness. We deny what we know to be true, that God is a righteous judge.
We deny what we know to be true, that our sin is ever before this God of the universe. we deny that Jesus Christ came and died for sinners and rose again to new life for sinners and that he is the only way because we love our sin and hate the God of heaven I tell you it's not your fault you were born that way but the fact of the matter is it is your fault too even though we were all born that way. This is why God says, you must be born again. Because we are all born that way.
We are all born hopelessly, infatuated with ourselves and our sin. And we are all born haters of God. We're all conceived in sin and unrighteousness. It is our very nature. and so God has sent his son to forgive you of that nature if you will believe God has sent his son Jesus into the world to take on human flesh to suffer temptation to suffer affliction and ultimately to suffer the justice of God and the wrath of God on the cross so that sinners may be forgiven.
And one of the reasons that you reject this is because you want to satisfy your own sin yourself. There is a part of you that is convinced that you can be good enough to be pleasing to God. we live in a culture, a hyper-therapized culture. We all believe that there's something about us that's good enough for God, that God should like us just the way we are, rather than realizing that we're a constant offense to Him.
But although we're a constant offense to Him, He actually made a way to be forgiven by Him. This God of mercy and grace, is so full of love and compassion that rather than allow the entire human race to descend into hell and be punished forever, which he could certainly handle because he's almighty and all-powerful, instead, God sent his only Son into the world to be the Savior of the world so that all those who believe in Jesus Christ, who have the testimony in themselves that Jesus Christ, by His Spirit, has saved their soul and bears witness with their spirit that they're children of God, all of those people could instead of going to hell be forgiven because Jesus suffered hell on their behalf. And so our command to you today is to repent of your sin.
And yes, it's a command. Turn. Turn from your sin and believe the gospel. Trust that Jesus died in your place and rose again so that you may have eternal life. That is your only hope. There is no other hope outside of that.
The only hope you have apart from Jesus Christ is the judgment of God. And it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. The Apostle Paul said he's counted all things as loss in order that he may know Jesus Christ only. He says he wants to know Jesus and the power of His resurrection and to share in His sufferings. Because if you do not suffer with Jesus Christ, you have no hope that you are going to inherit the same thing that Jesus Christ will inherit, which is all things He is the one who has secured all things for His people Jesus Christ is the one who did everything necessary to be pleasing to God He never once sinned.
Some of us think to ourselves, well, I'm not that bad. I've never murdered. Never cheated on my wife. but Jesus said, you have heard that it was said to those of old, you shall not murder. And whoever murders will be liable to judgment. But he says, but if anyone hates his brother, he'll be liable to judgment. And if anyone insults his brother, he'll be liable to the council.
And if you just call your brother a fool, mockingly, you'll be liable to the hell of fire. And Jesus said, you have heard that it was said to those of old, you shall not commit adultery. But I say, Jesus says, that anyone who even looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. This means that in the eyes of God, simply looking at someone who is not your spouse and lusting after them is equivalent to having broken the seventh commandment and committed adultery.
A penalty punishable by death in the Old Testament and most certainly punishable by eternal death now. So we warn you that the standard for sinfulness is not as simple as you think you're a good person outwardly. It's not as simple as you've never been arrested, you never did this, you never did that. You've never been arrested. The standard is your very heart is being investigated by God, and His Word that investigates your heart, His Son who investigates your heart, is a discerner of the thoughts and intentions of your heart.
He knows even in your best outward action, He knows the evil you intended inside, and sometimes the evil you intended inside may be nothing more than you're seeking your own glory through your outward action. Sometimes you can do the right thing and you can do it with the wrong motive in your heart and God sees every moment of it. And He will not share His glory with another.
God is worthy of all glory and honor and praise alone. When Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came and proved that. I like your shoes. Jesus Christ came and proved that the only glory that there exists is the glory of God. And anyone who's going to take glory for themselves is going to suffer the penalty of God's righteous anger for their pride. When you seek your own glory, you are functionally making yourself God in your mind and heart.
And God will have no other gods that he seeks glory to share. God will have vengeance on the day of judgment. And so we announce to you the forgiveness of God revealed in the word of God through the Son of God, Jesus Christ. He is the only hope that you have of salvation. Jesus Christ can free you from the penalty for your sin, and He can free you from the power of sin even in this life.
He can. He can. He already did. He already did. Praise the Lord then. Praise the Lord.
Without Him we're nothing. We're nothing without Him. That's right. So we're here to announce to you that Jesus Christ is the King of kings and Lord of lords announced in the scripture. He's coming again. He's going to come twice.
One time and then again. He's coming one more time. And he's going to punish you for your wickedness if you don't repent. Thank you. He's going to punish your wickedness. He's going to punish your wicked mouth.
He's going to shut it. You're more wicked than anybody else. I probably am, but I have a Savior to you. Yes, I do. What's your Savior's name? Is it Jesus?
If it was, then you'd appreciate his preaching because his sheep hear his voice. His sheep hear his voice. And they follow him. God bless you, man. Thank you. Thanks, man.
God bless you. Pray in. Thank you. So we're here to tell you that there is a Savior. And his name's Jesus Christ, and he hates evil and blasphemy and wickedness. He hates malice and he hates gossip and slander and envy and hypocrisy.
He hates thievery. He hates lying. He hates the sexually immoral, adulterers, the homosexuals. He hates all people that worship false gods. And Jesus Christ is also a God of immense love. Love that is so great that the very list of people I just mentioned is also the same list of people that he has forgiven.
Jesus Christ loves so much that he has forgiven people for all of these things that I just mentioned he is the only one with the power to forgive all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus Christ and he is the one who will come again to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end and he's going to take all those with him and believe in him so we exalt the name of Jesus we exalt the name of Jesus Christ, the only Son of God who came into the world to pay the penalty that sinners deserve. The only Son of God who came into the world to suffer the penalty that sinners deserve He paid the penalty for the very sins that He hates when he was on the cross And he suffered the wrath of God And he did it in a finite amount of time because he is God in the flesh And he was able to fully satisfy God's wrath for all those who will believe in him. And Jesus Christ promises that all those who come to him will be forgiven.
That he even forgives scoffers and mockers like you. and He forgives people who come to Him and He forgives people who believe in His name and in His name alone and trust that He is their only righteousness. That when you stand before God, you will have to be perfectly righteous to be accepted by God. And the only way any of us can be seen as perfectly righteous is if God instead sees Jesus Christ in your place.
He's your only hope. He's your only hope. He's all you've got. He's the only provision that's been made. But He is a perfect provision for salvation. And today, if you will bow the knee to Him, if you will believe that Jesus Christ died in your place and rose again, you can be forgiven.
You turn from sin, turn from idolatry, turn from adulteries and murders and sexual immorality, turn from lying, from your greed. Some of you don't steal, but you steal in your heart all the time by coveting things that God has not given you. And God sees that as sin and He hates it. He does. God hates sin. That's one of the things that makes Him such a great God is He can't dwell with unrighteousness, which is a really good thing, but it's bad for each one of you and me because we cannot be around a righteous God because we're unrighteous.
If God promises to wash clean all those who come to Jesus Christ by faith, He promises to cleanse you of all your unrighteousness and forgive you of your sin if you will confess Jesus Christ as Lord. To the glory of God the Father, come to Jesus Christ today and believe that He made atonement for your sins. Believe that He is your only hope. Today could be the day of salvation if you will turn from the unrighteousness that you once loved and believe in the gospel of His Son, Jesus Christ. you must be born again in order to see the kingdom of heaven you know God's real and that's why you say that because we suppress the truth that we know because we love our sin because we love ourselves because we're so full of pride and envy and deceit that we will make up completely strange things to deny God but we're here to tell you what you already know that there is a God and His wrath has been revealed against all unrighteousness of men from heaven.
And it's been revealed in such a way that causes you to deny your unrighteousness. And so we're here to announce to you that there is a Savior, Jesus Christ, who has come and He has suffered the penalty that sinners deserve. He has sat and suffered under the wrath of God. I mean he was nailed to that cross he was reconciling the world to himself so that sinners like you could be forgiven so that sinners like I am could be forgiven Jesus Christ the only son of God had to die the perfect lamb of God had to die so that sinners could be forgiven that is how serious sin is and most of us don't like to hear about that most of us don't like to hear about it because it makes us feel bad and you live in a feel-good culture that tells you no one should ever make you feel bad.
But you know what? If you don't feel bad about your sin, you're not going to cling to the sweetness of the Savior, Jesus Christ. If you don't understand the enormity of your sin, you're going to go right to hell with it. And I'd rather you feel bad for a minute here and cling to a Savior. I'd rather you feel a little bit guilty here for all your sin before a holy God so that you might come to his Savior.
He's provided Jesus Christ, his Son, who deserves all glory and honor. Jesus Christ who has all authority and power in this world and in the next one. That's the one we proclaim to you. The one who you owe all of your allegiance to. The one who's going to judge you one day. That's the one that we're announcing to you.
It's the Jesus Christ who's going to be your judge. But today, we're announcing him as the Savior. we're announcing him as the Savior of the world. And all those who come to him, thank you, can be forgiven. All those who come to Jesus Christ by faith, believing in his righteousness alone before a holy God, can be forgiven of all their sins. You can be treated as if you had lived the perfect life that Jesus lived, rather than live the life that you've lived.
If you will believe that he was treated as if he lived your sinful life on that cross and paid the penalty you deserve. And if you will stand before God one day, and you will be judged based on your righteousness, and unless you are hidden in Jesus Christ, the only man who ever had perfect righteousness, you will be judged as lacking. You will be judged as sinful.
And God's penalty for sin is eternal torment. Because your sin is against an infinitely holy God, your sin is worthy of eternal punishment. But Jesus Christ, who became a man, but is also God, was perfectly able to suffer the full penalty of God's wrath on that cross. And he was able to pay the penalty that sinners like you deserve. And Jesus Christ, when he was raised from the dead, proved, he proved eternally that God had perfect joy in his sacrifice. and because Jesus Christ is resurrected and he seated at the right hand of God there can be forgiveness for sinners There could be forgiveness for you and me and we don have to fear death anymore You don't have to fear when the day you die will be.
You don't have to fear COVID and all these other things they're telling you to fear. The only thing to fear is God himself. And that is what we want to tell you about. that there could be eternal life, which is knowing Jesus Christ. There could be eternal life because of His righteousness alone. And all you do is believe in Him and trust in Him. There's no works that you do to earn God's favor.
Thank you. There's no amount of religious acts you do. There's no amount of tithing or giving money to a church. There's no amount of confessions and different sacraments that you do. you come to Jesus Christ empty handed because you don't have anything to bring to him except your sin so you come to Jesus empty handed and you beg him to fill your hands with his righteousness you beg Jesus Christ to save your soul because you have no hope in yourself you need to come to Jesus Christ and you need to repent of your blasphemy and your slanders we're here to announce to you a forgiveness of sins and people shout things like shut up and hail Satan because deep down inside everybody knows that Jesus Christ is God and everybody knows that he's coming back to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end and your love for your own sin causes you to deny the certain reality that Christ is God in heaven the certain reality that he's returning and he is going to judge all those who are found outside of his kingdom and so we call on you today to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you can be saved we call on you today to believe that God raised him from the dead and that you have the hope of eternal life because Jesus Christ lived and died and rose again that's the gospel, the good news that sinners can be forgiven that God has made a way for His people to be gathered together and forgiven of their sins for all those who come to Him.
Jesus came into the world born of a virgin. Do you know why? The reason is so that He'd be born without the stain of sin that we are all conceived in. And that Jesus Christ lived a perfect life. He never once violated God's laws. He was perfectly faithful to God the Father in Heaven. he was always spirit led Jesus Christ always obeyed God's law he never lied stole Jesus Christ never committed adultery even looking at a woman to lust after her Jesus Christ never murdered anyone and he wouldn't have been mocking to his brothers and so what we announce to you today is Jesus Christ the Savior of the world.
There is absolutely no hope outside of Jesus Christ. Don't let that sin take you down to hell. The reason we're here is so that you may know that there's a Savior. So that you may know that there's forgiveness for that evil and the wickedness dripping out of your mouth. God sees your evil and he is going to punish all those who commit atrocities against him.
But for all those who believe in his son, for all those who trust that Jesus Christ died in their place, there is hope of forgiveness of sins. You can be forgiven for every minute of blasphemy, every ounce of sexual immorality, every little bit of hatred in your heart, Every time you've coveted things that are not yours. Every little lie, every big lie.
You can be forgiven for every single one of them if you'll come to Christ. And without Christ, you can be forgiven of none of them. Without Jesus Christ, you will suffer the wrath of God upon you for your sins. You will suffer the righteous wrath of God for all of your sins. Thank you. But with Jesus Christ, there is no condemnation for those who are found in him.
There is only the hope of eternal life. There is only the hope of a glorified body one day. If you are in Jesus Christ, there will be no more curse. There will be no more suffering under the penalties of sin and the punishments for sin and even the power of sin. If you are in Jesus Christ, and so we announce his name to you today, that you may believe. we tell you about Jesus Christ and his holy hatred for sin, that you may flee your sin.
We want you to run from sin because it wants to kill you. And we want you to run to Jesus Christ who grants life. The Bible says we are not ashamed of the gospel because it's the power of God for salvation to those who believe. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith. The righteousness of God is revealed to you in that he had to punish a perfect man so that anyone at all could be saved.
But the righteousness of God is revealed in that he was satisfied with Jesus' perfect righteousness. And so God is able to be both just and justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus because Jesus Christ has died and rose again. And all those who are found in him, everyone who comes to Jesus Christ by faith is forgiven of all their sins. sins. Everyone who believes that Christ died in their place and rose in their place can be forgiven of everything that they've ever done that is a violation of God's holy law.
Sin is transgression of the law and all that is done without faith. We've spent so much of our life not living by faith and yet God, God has been merciful to you in that if you're walking by me now you're still breathing. And if you're still breathing and flicking off the camera like a little kid, God sees you. And he's been merciful to even give you those fingers.
But God is going to one day return. Jesus will return. And he's going to judge the world in righteousness. And the judgment that comes will be based upon the perfect life that Jesus Christ lived. There will be no hope for anyone who expects to stand before God and be pleasing to God in their own strength by their life. The only hope you have is to be hidden in Jesus Christ who is the substitute for many on that cross.
Jesus who suffered the wrath of God upon himself. He didn't suffer the wrath of God upon himself because you were able to please God. Jesus Christ, if you come to Him, He promises to never cast you out. He promises that all those who come to Him, He will never cast away. He says His yoke is easy and His burden is light. So Jesus Christ is the one who carries the burden for His own people.
That's why His yoke is easy and His burden is light. there is hope for all those in Jesus Christ and only those in Jesus Christ. Without him you have no hope. You only have the hope that you might stand before God long enough to have him smack your face before you open your mouth. He's going to wipe that smile off your face one day. I hope he does it in this life.
I hope he forgives you of your sin in this life, scoffer. He's going to punish you though. That's why we command you to turn to the gospel. God will punish even those who scoff at his word. God will punish those who blaspheme his son's name. God punishes those who have disobeyed their parents.
God punishes murderers. God punishes liars and thieves, but he also forgives those same kinds of people. God forgives people of all types of sin. The Bible told us that all manner of sin will be forgiven. and so we're here to announce that to you all manner of sin will be forgiven those who knowingly blaspheme God your sins can be forgiven those of you who have heard the truth of the gospel and rejected it God can forgive you of that what's that? pedophiles can be forgiven but if they don't repent and trust Jesus there's a hot hell for those Jesus Christ is much bigger than a football game don't blaspheme his name because your team didn't do well Jesus Christ is Jesus Christ is the only God that exists he's the only God that exists sorry man Jesus Christ also is the only God that will judge you your God won't judge you Because your God is a made-up God.
But Jesus will judge you. Because he's the real God, and he's not only permitted to, but authorized to make whatever standards he wants for his people. And he has revealed to us clearly his law in his word. You shall not steal, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not lie. You shouldn't even covet things that aren't yours. You don't even envy.
Envy of somebody else's things. That's a sin. Envy of somebody else's stature or status. That's a sin in God's eyes. Greediness. Even if you never acquire possessions, greediness is a sin in God's eyes because it shows a lack of contentment with what He has provided.
And so our call to you today is to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ that you may be saved. Believe that Jesus Christ is the only hope you have that a holy God could forgive you of your sins. Believe that Jesus Christ is the only hope you have that God could see you as righteous. Believe that there is no one under heaven by which you may be saved but Jesus Christ alone.
Come to Him and believe that He is the one who rose again from the grave. Come to Him and believe that He is God Almighty and that he's seated at the right hand of the Father with angels, authorities, and powers all having been subjected to him because Jesus Christ alone is able to sit next to the Father in heaven. That is his throne. And the problem most of us have is that we see ourselves on the throne in heaven.
But that's where Jesus Christ belongs. And because he's merciful and gracious, Jesus Christ has given us all time to repent He's given us all a chance to turn from our sin even right now and repent that's a false God don't let a false God drag you to hell why would you believe in a false God a made up God no you know who God is Jesus Christ is God He is the only one with the power to save and He the only one with the power to judge and He will And so we announce that there is a judgment coming We announce that the wrath of God has already been revealed against us from heaven It obvious that there's a God. It's obvious that he has standards of righteousness.
Just look around, even in most unjust countries, there are laws that we come up with because it's just so obviously written on our hearts what right and wrong is. And yet God in heaven has allowed so many of us to break His laws so egregiously. And some of us, even in our hearts we break His laws. You guys do it outwardly, but He can forgive you. God is willing to forgive.
And so we're here to tell you that God is willing to forgive. He's ready to forgive. Jesus Christ has already done everything that is necessary for a sinner to be forgiven. There is nothing else that has to happen for a sinner to be forgiven than to simply trust that Jesus Christ died in their place. There's no more work to be done. There's no more sacraments to keep.
There's no more works you have to do to be pleasing to God. The best work you could possibly do is not pleasing to God because it comes from a heart of self-glorification. But if you will come to Christ, if you will come to Jesus Christ and believe in Him as your only Savior, believe in Him as your only hope for eternal life, there is forgiveness. There's forgiveness at the cross, we say.
Believe that when Jesus Christ was hanging on that cross, that when He was being punished by earthly men, that God was pouring out His anger for your sin on His only Son. Believe that. Believe that when God raised Jesus from the dead, it showed that he accepted what Jesus Christ did thank you believe that and believe that God can raise you from your death that you're in and believe that God can give you eternal life it's because Jesus Christ lives today that you have hope and so we call on you to turn to him and cling to the one who can save you turn to the only God who has actually ever existed.
The only God who has power to save you. Turn to the only God who can judge you as well. God will be your judge or your savior. In some sense, he leaves it up to you to make that choice. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and he will be your savior. Trust that you have no righteousness of your own but that all your righteousness is only the righteousness that Jesus Christ had and that God can see that as acceptable if you will come to Him.
If you will not believe that, God will be your judge. And God will judge you by His perfect standard of righteousness, His standard of righteousness which digs all the way down to your heart and sees every evil thought and every evil deed, all the way down to your heart and sees how even in your best outward actions, your heart is not right. Jesus Christ is the one true God.
He is the one who sees everything that you do. He knows that you know who He is. He knows that He's been revealed to you. He knows that you're even hearing His name preached. and you will be held accountable for rejecting this truth that you've been given. That there is only one way. There is only one truth.
There's only one life. And that is through Jesus Christ. There is only one God in heaven. Jesus Christ. He says, I'm the bread of life. Jesus said, I'm the resurrection and the life.
He's the way, the truth, and the life. he's the alpha and the omega the beginning and the end the first and the last the bright and morning star the good shepherd Jesus Christ is sovereign over all and what we call on you to recognize is that he is Lord and that he is the savior of all those who come to him so we call on you to believe that Jesus Christ died for you believe that you deserve to die because of your sin that a righteous God cannot possibly dwell near you but that because he sent his son Jesus Christ into the world sinners like you could be forgiven that's what we call on you to believe we call on you to believe that Jesus Christ is the savior of the world and believe that he's your savior believe that he died in your place and rose again so you could have new life. It's not weird if you believe it. It's not weird if you believe it.
You'll be here with me if you believe it. So we call on you to believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins. We call on you to turn to Him and turn from your sin, turn from idolatry, turn from sexual immorality, turn from murders, from lying, from thievery. Turn from sorceries and drug use and drunkenness and orgies. Turn from even approving of that which God has said is wicked and abominable and turn to Jesus Christ.
No, your God wouldn't. Your God doesn't exist. So we announce to you that God is a God of great power And He a God of great love And this God is able to save all those who come to Him Regardless of how much your sin has offended a holy God God is powerful to save those who come to Him. And when God saves a soul, He transforms them and He gives them a new heart and a new mind.
God bless you. He gives them new desires so that they will fulfill Jesus' words when He said, Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. He says, Blessed are those who are pure in heart, for they shall see God. But none of us is pure in heart, so how could we ever see God? You can be forgiven. Believe in the Messiah who has come.
Believe that Jesus is the promise of the Old Testament. Believe that you have no other hope for eternal life but in Jesus Christ. believe that there's no other name under heaven whereby we must be saved but the name of Jesus Christ. That is what we preach to you. Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the hope of everyone. He's the only God.
Jesus Christ is the one who came and he died and was buried and rose again. Jesus Christ is the door of the sheepfold. He's the only way in. Jesus Christ is the door of the ark. The only way to avoid the judgment of God is for Jesus to have suffered the judgment in your place. In order to have that happen, you have to come to Him by faith.
You have to believe that He is real and He's a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. You have to trust that Jesus Christ came into the world and died the death you deserve and was raised again so that you may have new life. There is no hope apart from Jesus Christ. There's no salvation apart from Jesus Christ. God wouldn't let Oregon win. God is sovereign, so I'll leave it at that.
He does all that he pleases. And what God desires for you today, what God's command to you is, is that you will believe the gospel. If there was a God, Ohio State would believe the gospel. you don't put conditions and tests on God God puts conditions on you God is the one who decides everything and so we're here to tell you that he has already sent his son into the world Jesus every day is the day to do this thank you God has sent his son into the world to suffer and die in the place of others and if you walk by and scoff at that and laugh at it, God sees that too this offer of the gospel this believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved it has an expiration date one day you will die and you will have no hope that you'll be able to ever believe in the Lord but today is a day that you are alive you have ears to hear and you can believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.
Or one day he's going to return and he may return while you're yet alive. And it will be a war, a bloodbath, where he destroys his enemies. That means each and every one of you who are outside of Christ. And on that day I'd prefer that you be on his side. We'd prefer that you be known as one of his, adopted by God into the family of God by being a joint heir with Jesus Christ.
That's what we're here to announce to you. We want you to know that God is a forgiving God. We'll do it Sunday too. Jesus Christ is worth being proclaimed every day. And I have a strange sense a lot of you aren't going to go to church tomorrow and hear about this anyway. And so we come here so that you may know there's a Savior.
I hope so. Good. We come here that you may know that there's a Savior, Jesus Christ. We come here that you may hear the name of Jesus over and over because Jesus is the only name under heaven whereby you can be saved. His is the exalted name. Thank you that God has exalted that name because of His humiliation.
The Bible says, humble yourself before the Lord. That's a terrible way to think. Because hell is a way worse place than you can imagine right now. God is all powerful. You don't want to go to hell. We want you to know that God is a God of love.
And because God is a God of love, He has sent a Savior into the world so that sinners can be forgiven of all of the blasphemous things we've spoken against Him. we can be forgiven of all of the ungodly thoughts we've had we can be forgiven of all of our ungodly deeds because Jesus Christ came and lived a perfect life and then Jesus Christ died a death he didn't deserve for others and then he rose again to show that his sacrifice was acceptable to God Almighty so that's what we announce to you today The forgiveness of sins by the God of love. But because God is love, God must hate all unrighteousness. God hates all sin and all evil.
So just like in a human sense a person who didn hate evil would not be a good person or a just person A God who does not hate unrighteousness a God who accepts abominations would not be a good God And so thankfully we announced to you a perfect God A God who has perfect righteousness and perfect holiness. And thus he is so separated from sin and he is so separated from sinners like you that we can't even imagine how holy and perfect he is. We can only walk away in fear like cowards.
But what we announce is that he forgives even the cowardly and the detestable and the faithless. That God is a God who forgives all manner of sin. But he only forgives one way and that's through Jesus Christ. The only forgiveness that is offered and available is forgiveness found in the name of Jesus Christ alone. So our announcement today is believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. That name carries with it the weight. The weight that it is Jesus Christ who is God Almighty. That it's Jesus Christ who is the only propitiation for sinners. That means he was a wrath-satisfying sacrifice. It means that when Jesus suffered on the cross, Jesus was able to take the full wrath of God upon himself for others.
Because he himself never sinned, Jesus Christ was able to take the penalty that sinners deserve as a substitute. And anyone who believes that Christ died in their place can be forgiven of their sins. anyone that believes in Jesus Christ for their salvation can be forgiven of all their sins. God damn it, why didn't Jesus win? Get on with real. I think you should wash your mouth.
Wash your mouth. God's full of shit now. Wash your mouth because he's going to wash it one day and it's going to hurt. It's going to hurt when he does it. So I suggest you wash it today and come to Jesus Christ while you can still open your mouth. I want you to be forgiven I don't know why you hate yourself even God bless you we're here to tell you that there is forgiveness found at the cross of Jesus Christ we're here to tell you that all those who come to him can be forgiven of all their sins their blasphemies you can be forgiven of all the times you were cowardly you didn't stand up for God all the times you were faithless and you weren't faithful to God you can be forgiven for all of the things that you've done in the privacy of your own home, some of them in your own heart that you know that you wouldn't even tell other people about because it's so ugly and heinous.
All of the things you've done in secret that you would be so embarrassed to find out there was a video of, you could be forgiven. God is a God of forgiveness and love. And God is the God who will one day come and judge all those who have sinned against Him. And so we announce to you today that Jesus Christ came into the world to pay the penalty sinners deserve.
Jesus Christ lived the perfect life that you could not live and I could not live. Suffering all the temptations we suffer and yet without sin, never once violating God's holy law. And then when He was punished on that cross, He took upon Himself He took upon Himself the penalty that sinners deserve on that cross. And then when He was raised from the dead, He was raised to new life.
And God showed that He accepted the sacrifice Jesus gave for sinners. And all those who are found hidden in Christ can be forgiven. Do you believe this? I believe. Amen. What's your name?
Todd. Todd, good to meet you, Todd. Good to meet you. So we're here to announce to you today the deliverance from God's wrath. We're here to announce to you that all those who flee to Jesus Christ for forgiveness... Thank you.
Thank you. All those who flee to Jesus Christ for forgiveness, those people will not suffer the judgment of God because He has already suffered it for them. Jesus Christ in his death on the cross was able to fully satisfy God's justice for all those that he came to save and so come to Jesus Christ today be washed of your sin if you're not born again you will never enter the kingdom of heaven Jesus said are you born again? are you born again? not if you're blaspheming his name you're not that's not what you do so we come here today to announce the forgiveness that comes only through Jesus Christ he's the one true God good to meet you Todd he's the one true God he's the only one who can forgive sins and he's the only one who will judge you for your sins but we want you to be forgiven we're here that you may not have to pay the penalty for your sins because Jesus already died in the place of his people.
So come to him today. Come and be forgiven. Be cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ, cleansing you of your sin, washing you. God promises to send his Holy Spirit to indwell all those who believe, to be the guarantee of their inheritance and their future salvation. And so we come to announce that same thing to you. The forgiveness of sins that can be found only in Jesus Christ.
We want you to know that there is hope for all those who come to Jesus Christ by faith. We want you to know that you can be forgiven of everything you've ever done. But you must come to God on His terms. You must come to God on His terms. The only way to be forgiven is through His Son. If you try to come any other way, you will never be able to make it into heaven.
Jesus said that only a thief or a robber tries to come in through a different door than the main door of a sheepfold. If you try to sneak into heaven by any other door but the door opened by Jesus Christ, God sees you as a thief and a robber and he'll throw you out. you'll be treated like a dirty dog. But if you come through the door of Jesus Christ's opening, if you come to God through Jesus Christ, the one mediator between God and man, the perfect high priest who is able to sympathize with his people, the perfect man who is able to do all that God commanded him to do, if you come that way, you will have eternal life.
Jesus said, I came to give my people an abundant life. Jesus came to fulfill our joy. And so we call on you, God bless you, we call on you today to believe in Jesus Christ because He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. Because He is the perfect high priest. Because there is no hope of salvation for anyone outside of Jesus Christ. Hey Jason, look at that bus man That's your tax dollars man That's your tax dollars Paying for that bus, yeah Yeah We want you to know That there is one God in heaven His name is Jesus Christ He came into the world Condescended to become a man So that people could be forgiven of their sins Jesus Christ came into the world so that sinners could be forgiven.
And when Jesus Christ came into the world to pay the penalty that sinners deserve, nobody asked Him to do it. Nobody was crying out to God saying, God, send us a Savior. Because by nature, we're runners. And we're hiders. We run from God and we hide from God. But Jesus came...
Amen. Thank you. Jesus came so that people who didn't even want a Savior would then see His good work. And people's eyes would be opened to the heinousness of their own sin that they might believe in the Savior and be saved Jesus Christ lived a perfect life You know that He never sinned He never once violated any of God commands And Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay a penalty that sinners deserve.
Jesus Christ died on the cross so that sinners could be forgiven and have hope of eternal life. even though he never did a single thing wrong, he was treated as if he'd committed a capital crime. He was treated as if he was a regular murderer, a pedophile. He was treated like a rapist. And this is so that people like you and me, who have committed all sorts of atrocities, even just in our heart, could be forgiven. so we announce the forgiveness of God found only in Jesus Christ it's by grace through faith alone there's no works that you do it's not a result of your effort it's not a result of your goodness Jesus Christ he is the only God he is the only Savior there's no one greater you only have one hope there's one hope and it's in the name of Jesus but at the name of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue confess that he is Lord and so this announcement is for you the announcement is that you may bow the knee to Jesus right now we want you to know that he is the Savior, that he is God that there is no hope apart from him The We'll be right back.
A thousand years ago, a man came and lived a sinless life. His name was Jesus the name given him by the angel when he was just a baby in the womb Incidentally he was a real baby in the womb and just like the babies that we slaughter regularly in our society he was a life with value at that time And this Jesus came and he lived a life that you and I could not live. He lived a perfect life of sinlessness, always obedient to God, always loving to God, always listening to God, never scoffing.
He said He's meek and lowly and gentle in heart. And all those who come to Him, He'll never cast out. He says His yoke is easy and His burden is light. And he says, those who come to him will find rest for their souls. And that's what we're here to announce. Rest.
You can rest from the guilt of sin, rest from the fear of death. Rest from the fear of penalty for your sin. Rest from the fear of the coming judgment of God that's been revealed clearly in the heavens. Jesus offers rest. Jesus suffered so that those who come to Him might find rest, forgiveness, peace, joy. God bless you, man.
Thanks. Jesus suffered so that people like you and I don't have to and now Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father He's ruling and reigning we call on you to believe in Him the command is believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved He can forgive you for that He's willing to forgive come to Him there is hope there is hope at the cross of Christ for all those who come to Him for scoffers and haters mockers there is hope in Jesus alone There's no hope at all in any other name. Go Browns.
No hope in any other name but the name of Jesus. So if you leave here remembering one thing, remember the name of Jesus. The only Savior Good The only Savior The only one you can have any hope in Jesus Christ We want you to know that God has sent a forgiveness, a way of forgiveness into the world. This way is through His Son, Jesus Christ, the only hope, the only hope any of us can have is to be forgiven because of Jesus Christ.
So come to Him today. Doesn't matter what happened on the football field, come to Jesus today. Doesn't matter what else is going on in life, come to Jesus today. Today is a day that Jesus Christ is still God, He's still on the throne, and His gospel is still true, that all those who come to Him, He will forgive and never cast out. He's still the resurrection and the life.
He's still raised from the dead. He's still seated at the right hand of God, ruling. And the offer of forgiveness of sin is still active today in your hearing. And so we call on you to believe in it. Believe. Believe.
Don't mock. Believe. believe that God is a judge who will punish all those who reject Him and rebel against Him. Even the cowardly. He will forgive even the cowardly if they repent. So today it was our great joy to bring to you the gospel of Jesus Christ. it's our great joy to announce to you that Jesus Christ is still God in heaven and he's still the savior of the world and he's your only hope good it's our goal that you would know the savior so we tell you that he's revealed in the bible you can read all about his life everything you need to know it's right there in the Bible most of you have one in your house I hope and you can hear about what Jesus said what he did, the claims he made you can learn what you need to learn so that you can be forgiven for your sins and follow him there's no greater joy you can have
