You Say She's Alive. Why Isn't She Protected?
Part 1
📝 Notes / description
A student defends abortion on bodily autonomy, then grants that the child in the womb is already alive. Four minutes on the question that follows from that -- and she walks away calling it "a really good eye-opener."

Michaelyou a question about your faith and abortion and things like that? What do you think about like abortion for example? I think a female should have their own control over their body. Okay. I mean there's many reasons why someone would want an abortion not just like you know just because they accidentally got pregnant, they could get raped, they could just there's many I can't list them all but everyone has different reasons. Okay, so you think that a female having control over her own body is reason enough to justify murdering somebody else's body so like like is your argument that because a day in this world should not have a not have a control over someone who's lived many like many days you know that survived a thousand days in this world because whoever has lived in this world knows how hard it is mm-hmm I don't I don't believe that, like, just because it's, you can't define it like murder. It's not murder if a female is choosing to love themselves, you know. It's not, if a girl gets raped. Now, there's many cases out in the world that a little child has been raped, right? And she's above the age of puberty, she gets pregnant. Would you say that that little child is murdering a thing that hasn't, a being that hasn't even lived a day in this world? Yes, so I believe that the moment of conception we have a new being who is actually alive. Now I will agree with you that person hasn't been out of the womb yet, but you seem to be saying that if a person has left the womb, they now have some lived experience that gives them a right, but if they're still in the womb, you acknowledge they're alive, But that they don't have a right to be protected? Is that what you're trying to say? No. I'm trying to say that you can't define abortion as murder because there's many reasons. But then everyone has their own opinions, so I can't really, I don't really want to argue with you on this because I don't have enough time to explain everything to you. But I understand your perspective. I understand. It's a very difficult decision. So, can I, let me ask you a question. Sorry to interrupt you. But are any of the reasons that you think are, we'll say, you think are justifiable reasons for abortion, would those same reasons justify killing your six-month-old child?
StudentWhy am I killing my six-month-old child?
MichaelWell, maybe you are poor and you don't think you can afford to take care of the baby. There's adoption, there's, um,
Studentthere are ways you can not kill the child and give them a better life. But,
Michaelbefore, no,
Studentbefore they're born, what, you do know a woman can die giving birth, right? She can die giving birth. You
Michaelcan die driving down the road, too. I understand that. So, the fact that someone can die doesn't mean it's inherently risky. You
Studenthave a choice on your own body. You do not have a choice on someone else's body. That being said, until you give birth to a baby, that is your body, right? And I'm not saying. Well, the
Michaelbaby's body is a different body. The baby's body is a different body. And it's relying on mother. And it's no pregnancy doesn't kill mothers. It can kill a mother. No, that's really just not how it works. Some people have complicated pregnancies where medical technology, which we have tons of, can help them. Is there a guarantee that a mother won't die while giving birth? Oh, it's a way higher percentage than that, that they won't die. The percentage of people whose pregnancies are actually life-threatening is super-duper low. And we have hospitals that can take care of people in those situations. We have people who can have their machine pump blood for them while they have heart surgery to replace parts of their heart. You don't think we can keep a mom alive who's doing the same thing that mothers in every mammalian species have done for centuries? I want to pass
Studentthat to the little girls and the mothers that have died giving birth because people think that they don't have a choice on their body. But thank you for this conversation. It's a really good eye-opener. I'm waiting. Okay, you have a good day. You too.
